ABOUT NEGS

History of NEGS

  • The North Eastern Geological Society was formed in 1971.

  • The original members had attended Durham University and WEA Adult Education classes on various aspects of geology and landscape, and who wished to pursue their interests beyond the class programmes.

  • Today, the society has grown to over 80 members of all standards and generations and has a dynamic lecture and field trip programme.

  • The lectures hosted by NEGS cover a wide variety of topics, this includes everything from local geology to extra terrestrial geology.

  • Meanwhile, the fieldtrips explore the broad and exciting geological history of the northeast, which is of significant importance to those interested in the oil and gas industry of the UK.
