Encouraging participation and widening knowledge of geology in the North East of England since 1971
ABOUT NEGS
History of NEGS

-
The North Eastern Geological Society was formed in 1971.
-
The original members had attended Durham University and WEA Adult Education classes on various aspects of geology and landscape, and who wished to pursue their interests beyond the class programmes.
-
Today, the society has grown to over 80 members of all standards and generations and has a dynamic lecture and field trip programme.
-
The lectures hosted by NEGS cover a wide variety of topics, this includes everything from local geology to extra terrestrial geology.
-
Meanwhile, the fieldtrips explore the broad and exciting geological history of the northeast, which is of significant importance to those interested in the oil and gas industry of the UK.
